Red Wine Cair Cuvée 2019
Availability: In stock
The interesting Cair Cuvée is the entry-level Spanish red wine of Dominio de Cair, the Ribera del Duero brand of the well-known Luis Cañas winery from La Rioja.
Made from the youngest vines of the winery (20-25 years of age), this Ribera del Duero red wine is a blend of 85% Tempranillo and 15% Merlot. Interestingly, the Merlot vineyard is located at an altitude of 950 metres, a key factor in allowing the grapes to ripen steadily and slowly.
The grapes were destemmed, fermented in stainless steel tanks and then transferred into new, one and two-year-old French (60%) and American (40%) oak barrels, where the wine stayed for 10 months. The Tempranillo was aged in 2nd and 3rd year barrels, while the Merlot was aged in new ones.
Prior to its release, Cair Cuvée 2019 was aged for a further 6 months in the cellar before its release.
This is a very versatile Crianza red wine.
Appearance | The red wine Cair Cuvée is medium purple with some violet glints. |
---|---|
Nose | Very suggestive, with some complexity. This blend of Tempranillo and Merlot begins with some aromas of mulberries and blackberries, nuanced by notes of clay and graphite. On the background there appear some sweet spices, and some lactic and toffee remembrances, underpinned by a subtle smoky background. |
Palate | This Ribera del Duero red wine of Bodegas Cair has a crisp, uplifting acidity, some gentle tannins and a lively passage through the palate. Long finish with some berryish and earthy notes. |
Our personal opinion | Remarkably fresh, Cair Cuvée 2019 pairs particularly well with hearty dishes thanks to its excellent acidity. This is a nice Ribera del Duero red wine from Luis Cañas. |
