Details

This is quite a special Cava produced by the Vilarnau winery.

The wine is a single varietal Xarel.lo coming from a 1-hectare, organically farmed estate located in Costers d'Espiells, the highest are of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, Cava's heartland.

For many years, the tradition in Penedès was to age the wines, particularly Xarel.lo wines such as this, in barrels.

After the harvest, the grapes were cold-macerated, and then 20% of the wine was transferred into 250-litre chestnut barrels, where it underwent alcoholic fermentation. The rest of the wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks.

Then both wines were blended and bottled.

Finally, after finishing secondary fermentation Capricis de Vilarnau Xarel·lo Castanyer was aged for a minimum of 15 months.

Drink this Reserve Brut Nature Cava over the next 4-5 years.

Production of only 4,000 bottles.

Appearance

Bright yellow colour with some golden tinges.

Nose

Suggestive aromas of ripe white fruit, bone fruit, wild flowers, aromatic herbs, citrus, chamomile, dry fruit and mineral.

Palate

Fresh and complex, combining some creamy, sophisticated notes with a fresh backbone of acidity. Citrus, bitter herbs, a salty and mineral touch, bone fruit, remembrances of pastry and hints of white flowers. Long finish.

Our personal opinion

The organic Cava Capricis de Vilarnau Xarel·lo Castanyer has a truly singular character. Very interesting.
