Cara Nord 2015 is a Spanish red wine crafted from grapes coming from little, high-altitude vineyards of Grenache (42%), Syrah (38%) and the indigenous, little-known Catalan variety Garrut, a local variation of Monastrell (20%).
Located at an altitude of 800 metres above sea level, the vines grow in slate, pebblestone and clayey-limestone soils with very low levels of organic matters in the midst of the unspoilt environment of the Prades mountains, near the beautiful medieval monastery of Santa Maria de Poblet. Climate is continental with a Mediterranean influence.
Manually harvested, the grapes of this wine belonging to the Conca de Barberà DO were brought to the cellar in little boxes, and once there they were fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. The winemaker is Tomás Cusiné, also the owner of the Castell del Remei and Cérvoles wineries.
After that, Cara Nord Negre 2015 was aged for 6 months in French oak barrels.
Drink until 2021.
Cara Nord has an intense, bright, dark, high cherry-coloured robe with a violet rim.
A fresh, almost Atlantic character defines the nose of this red wine by Conca de Barberà. Aromas of cranberries, jellybeans, liquorice, eucalyptus and balsam, along with hints of spices and some mineral undertones.
The entrance onto the palate of this red wine by the Cara Nord winery is fresh and yummy. Notes of red and black fruit, an underlying mineral character and a dash of spices. Ripe tannins and a fresh, lively acidity. Medium finish with, again, remebrances of red and black fruit and a forest-floor suggestion.
