Cargol Treu Vi 2014
Cargol Treu Vi 2014 is the third vintage of this white wine crafted by the team formed by Irene Alemany and Laurent Corrió, a couple based in Penedès that, in the last years, have been producing increasingly interesting, daring, radical wines.
This wine is a varietal Xarel·lo coming from a single vineyard more than 70 years old located in a very particular terroir in the Garraf Mountains. The soil is composed of marine fossils, a feature that gives the wine a remarkable freshness and a characteristic minerality.
Carefully harvested, the wine was fermented and aged on its lees in 300-litre French oak barrels.
You may be surprised to know, incidentally, that Spanish wine Cargol Treu Vi, an age-worthy white, got no less than 93 Parker points.
Clean, bright, straw-yellow colour with steely tinges.
A nice perfume of white flowers, along with notes of white fruit, citrus, enticing hints of smoke and flintstone and some elegant mineral undertones.
The Xarel.lo wine Cargol Treu Vi, by Alemany i Corrió, shows from the start a linear character and a tense acidity. On the palate, notes of apples, pears, medlar, smoke, dry flowers and vanilla combine with some salty touches and mineral remembrances. Long, salty finish. Very original.
|Our personal opinion||
Cargol Treu Vi 2014 is an unconventional Mediterranean white that will improve substantially over the next three years.
