Red Wine Casar de Burbia 2015
Availability: In stock
The rediscovery of the indigenous Mencía grape is one of the best things happened in the Spanish wine scene in recent years.
Made from 40-year-old grapevines scattered across several plots and located in the town of Valtuille de Arriba, this Spanish red wine was macerated and fermented in stainless steel tanks.
Before being transferred into French oak barrels, it was aged for two months in its lees. After that, Casar de Burbia 2015 was aged for 10-12 months in 2nd and 3rd year oak barrels.
The red wine Casar de Burbia has a bright, medium-high red robe with a violet rim.
Lively, expressive notes of fresh red fruit, particularly raspberries and cherries, along with creamy notes and hints of toffee. As is usually the case in the Mencía wines from El Bierzo, there are some interesting earthy and mineral undertones which give depth to the wine.
Expressive and fresh, this Mencía from El Bierzo has a medium body and a crisp, refreshing acidity. This red wine of Casar de Burbia conveys a strong remembrance of raspberries and wild berries, combined with of spices, some mineral undertones and a highly original, sort of "ferric" touch. Crunchy tannins and long finish.
|Our personal opinion||
A charactertful Crianza red wine from El Bierzo, Casar de Burbia Mencía 2015 will pair excellently with stews, casseroles and game dishes.
