Product Description

The rediscovery of the indigenous Mencía grape is one of the best things happened in the Spanish wine scene in the last decades.

From this exceedingly interesting red variety, the Casar de Burbia winery produces Casar de Burbia at the very heart of DO El Bierzo, Mencía's homeland.

Made from 40-year-old grapevines scattered across several plots and located in the town of Valtuille de Arriba, this Spanish red wine was macerated and fermented in stainless steel tanks.

Before being transferred into French oak barrels, it was aged for two months in its lees. After that, Casar de Burbia 2017 was aged for 12 months in 2nd and 3rd year oak barrels.

Aerate this Crianza red wine 20 minutes before drinking.

Additional Information
Additional Information

The red wine Casar de Burbia has a bright, medium-high red robe with a violet rim.

Lively, expressive notes of fresh red fruit, particularly raspberries and cherries, along with creamy notes and hints of toffee. As is usually the case in the Mencía wines from El Bierzo, there are some interesting earthy and mineral undertones which give depth to the wine.

Expressive and fresh, this Crianza red wine has a medium body and a crisp, refreshing acidity. This red wine from Casar de Burbia conveys a vivid remembrance of raspberries and wild berries, with hints of spices, some mineral undertones and a highly original, sort of "ferric" touch. Crunchy tannins and long finish.

Our personal opinion

The flavourful Casar de Burbia Mencía 2017 will pair excellently with stews, casseroles and game dishes.
