Castillo de Sajazarra Reserva 2008 is a red wine produced only in exceptional vintages and made from a blend of grapes indigenous to the Rioja region. Tempranillo-based, it also has tiny amounts of Grenache and Graciano, all coming from estate vineyards.
Harvested quite late to ensure that the grapes were perfectly ripened, this red wine by Castillo de Sajazarra was fermented in stainless steel tanks following traditional techniques.
Then the wine was aged for no less than 24 months in American and French oak barrels. To preserve a good level of acidity, less than 20% of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation, which was carried out in new French oak barrels. Once completed, the whole of the wine Castillo de Sajazarra was transferred into big French oak vats, where it spent a further 3 months harmonizing.
Finally, after its bottling the wine was aged for 12 months in the cellar prior to its commercial release onto the market.
This Reserva wine has an intense ruby colour with violet tinges and a dark garnet rim.
Castillo de Sajazarra Reserva 2008 shows clean, straightforward aromas of red and black fruit, combined with subtle floral remembrances and a panoply of typical Rioja aromas, such as cocoa, vanilla, cinnamon, fine wood, oriental spices, balsam and liquorice.
Classy, but at the same time easy to drink, with notes of cassis, ripe cranberries, cocoa, arabica coffee and pipe tobacco. Acidity is very precise, and tannins are ripe and savoury. Long, elegant finish with notes of spices and some mineral undertones.

Castillo de Sajazarra Reserva 2008 is an updated classic, with a first-class fruit wisely enhanced by the judicious use of oak. The wine has a long life ahead, and it will evolve beautifully in the bottle for some years.
