Product Description
Details

A varietal Mencía, Castro Candaz Finca El Curvado is the result of the collaboration between world-class winemaker Raúl Perez and his friend Rodrigo Méndez, a prestigious Galician oenologist.

This single vineyard Spanish red wine was produced solely from the vines of Finca El Curvado, grown on steep slopes with sandy soils at an altitude of 350 metres above sea level. The vineyard is located in Chantada, a subzone of the DO Ribeira Sacra.

Picked by hand and cherry-picked, the non-destemmed grapes were fermented and then macerated for 3 months. After that, Castro Candaz Finca El Curvado 2018 was transferred into 3rd year French oak barrels, where it was aged for 12 months before bottling.

This is a transparent, terroir-bound Mencía from Ribeira Sacra produced by two of Spain's best winemakers.

8,000 bottles produced.

Appearance

Clean and bright, Castro Candaz Finca El Curvado is cherry red with some purplish tinges.

Nose

This varietal Mencía is subtle and engaging. Blue flowers and mineral nuances, with a watery note and hints of herbs and bluberries, nuanced by a toasted, malt-like note.

Palate

Sapid, medium-bodied and definitely Atlantic in character, this wine by Raúl Pérez is nimble and very fresh, with smooth tannins and clear focus. Long, lively finish with mineral and floral remembrances.

Our personal opinion

Subtle and savoury, Castro Candaz Finca El Curvado 2018 will pair marvelously with a French Boullabaisse. If you don't like fish, try it with a lamb stew.
