A varietal Mencía, Castro Candaz Finca El Curvado is the result of the collaboration between world-class winemaker Raúl Perez and his friend Rodrigo Méndez, a first-rate oenologist in his own right.
This single vineyard Spanish red wine was produced solely from the vines of Finca El Curvado, grown on steep slopes with sandy soils at an altitude of 350 metres above sea level. The vineyard is located in Chantada, a subzone of DO Ribeira Sacra.
Picked by hand and cherry-picked, the non-destemmed grapes were fermented and then macerated for 3 months. After that, Castro Candaz Finca El Curvado 2019 was transferred into 3rd year French oak barrels, where it was aged for 12 months before bottling.
This is a transparent, terroir-bound Mencía from Ribeira Sacra produced by two of Spain's best winemakers.
Clean and bright, Castro Candaz Finca El Curvado is cherry red with some purplish tinges.
This varietal Mencía is subtle and engaging. Blue flowers and mineral nuances, with a watery note and hints of herbs and bluberries, nuanced by a toasted, malt-like note.
Crunchy, medium-bodied and definitely Atlantic in character, this wine from Raúl Pérez is nimble and very fresh, with smooth tannins and a citrusy acidity. Long, lively finish with mineral and floral remembrances.

Subtle and savoury, Castro Candaz Finca El Curvado 2019 will pair marvelously with a French Boullabaisse. If you're not very keen on fish, try pairing it with a lamb stew.
