Red Wine Clos Fontà 2016

The top-of-the-range Spanish red wine of bodega Mas d’en Gil from Priorat is Clos Fontà. This is a blend of Grenache and Carignan sorted from the oldest vinest of the winery, planted in llicorella (slate) soils between 1931 and 1970.
The grapes were harvested by hand, meticulously selected and separately vinified. First, they were macerated and fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature.
After that, Clos Fontà 2016 was transferred into French oak barrels of different sizes, where it was aged for 16 months. Finally, it was aged for a further 36 months before it was launched onto the market.
Decant this Priorat red wine 40 minutes before drinking at the very least. Bear in mind, though, that a longer decanting period will greatly enhance your drinking experience.
Pair this Reserva red wine with foie, casseroles and game dishes.
The wine Clos Fontà is medium purple with a cherry rim.
This blend of old-vines Grenache and Carignan shows the understated elegance than one finds in most of the world's great wines. Pristine aromas of red fruit, with a stroke of Mediterranean underbrush, some subtle floral nuances and a smoky note. Oaky aromas are subdued, and there is a very deep, though subtle mineral background.
Rich and textured, this wine from Mas d'en Gil is a paragon of what one might call "Priorat classicism". Effortless and confident, with succulent ripe fruit, hints of flowers and aromatic herbs, some ripe tannins, and a deep mineral core. Crisp acidity, and very long finish with some mineral and earthy remembrances.
