White Wine Contino Blanco 2017

The Viñedos del Contino winery produces Contino Blanco from vineyards grown near the Ebro river.
A classic from La Rioja, this Spanish white wine is made from a blend of three grape varieties, all of them planted at an altitude above 400 metres. Namely, White Grenache, coming from 40-year-old vines, Malvasía, coming from 80-year-old vines grown in alluvial soils, and Viura coming from plants 30 to 40 years of age.
After a manual harvest, the grapes were separately vinified in stainless steel tanks. Macerated with the skins, the grapes began alcoholic fermentation, but were transferred into French oak barrels before transformation of sugar into alcohol was completed. There, Contino Blanco 2017 was aged on lees for a period of 6-7 months.
Finally, this white wine from Rioja was transferred again into steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation was not carried out in order to preserve the acidity of the wine.
The crianza white wine Contino Blanco has a pale straw yellow colour with some dim golden tinges.
This white wine from Viñedos del Contino shows an excellent balance between fruit and oak ageing. Notes of toast, spices and white flowers go hand in hand with aromas of white fruit, citrus and remembrances of pastry and dry fruit.
This blend of White Grenache, Malvasía and Viura from La Rioja is pleasantly dense, yet also nimble and drinkable. Very expressive and near its peak, the balance is remarkable, with curry, cedar and cinnamon over a layer of fruit compote, flowers, ripe limes and noisette butter. Excellent acidity and long, delicately bitter finish.

Great with white meat, oily fishes and creamy cheeses, Contino Blanco 2017 is a splendid white wine from Rioja.
