Product Description
Details

Belonging to the DO Jumilla, the Crápula Wines winery is the personal project of Gabriel Martínez Valero, a winemaker which has rapidly made a name for himself because of the quality and affordability of his wines.

A good example of his work, Crápula is made from a blend of 85% Monastrell, 10% Syrah and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, coming from vines planted in limestone soils with low levels of organic matter. The plots are located at an altitude of 800 metres above sea level, and the climate is Mediterranean-Continental.

Destemmed and pre-macerated, the grapes were fermented at in stainless steel tanks. After finishing malolactic fermentation, this Spanish red wine was aged for 12 months in new 300-litre French oak barrels.

Prior to its bottling, Crápula 2016 was clarified with egg whites and naturally decanted through gravity.

Drink this red wine from Jumilla until 2026. Decant 30 minutes before drinking.

Appearance

The red wine Crápula has a deep cherry robe with purple tinges and a ruby rim.

Nose

This blend dominated by Monastrell has a seductive aromatic expression, with notes of strawberries and blackberries, alongside aromas of Mediterranean forest, lavender and thyme over a mineral background. Crápula Wines has indeed crafted a nicely aromatic wine.

Palate

Easy to drink, though by no means a lightweight. This Crianza red wine from Jumilla has muscle and tension without a trace of flabbiness, carrying lively notes of ripe fruit, along with savoury tannins and a mineral, crisp acidity. Long, rewarding finish with some remembrances of aromatic herbs.

Our personal opinion

The red wine Crápula 2016 is the perfect all-rounder. You just can't go wrong with this wine.

Lacking any sort of glamour, Jumilla is a region that offers truly excellent wines for ridiculously low prices. This is one of them. An explosion of fruit and provence herbs, with balance, control and good focus. Review by Taster (Posted on 08/11/2017)
