Àlvarez Duran Winery

Àlvarez Duran

Tradition and passion come together in the wines of the Àlvarez Duran Priorat winery.

A native from Priorat, winemaker Sal·lustià Àlvarez has a deep love for his land of origin.

Started in the mid 2010s, the Àlvarez Duran Priorat winery is located in Porrera, a picturesque village in the very heart of Priorat. The winery owns 18 hectares of vineyards planted on steep slopes, composed of the typical slate soils that give the wines from Priorat their trademark mineral character.

The vines are farmed following environmentally friendly techniques, and with great respect for the surrounding environment, an enchanting Mediterranean landscape of olive trees, almond trees, aromatic herbs, pine trees and holm oaks.

The vineyards are divided into two estates: Fonellàs and La Ràpita.

Oriented to the west, the first has a total of 3,300 grapevines, spread across an extension of less than 1 hectare. Planted on slopes inclined up to 44% degrees, the plants date from no less than 1896. The main variety is Carignan, followed by little amounts of Grenache, Picapoll, Black Muscat, and White Grenache.

The grapevines of La Ràpita were planted in 1996, both on slopes and on terraces. The white varieties are oriented to the north. To the east, there is Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon. To the south, Syrah, Carignan and Merlot. In total, the estate is home to 32,000 vines.

Sal·lustià Àlvarez, the current president of the DOQ Priorat, is the owner and head winemaker of the Àlvarez Duran winery. The company currently produces red, white and sweet wines. Productions are very limited, and wines are crafted with exquisite attention to detail.
