Bodegas Morca

Bodegas Morca

A branch of Gil Family Estates, Bodegas Morca produces varietal Grenache wines in Aragón, the birthplace of Grenache.

Located in Borja, DO Campo de Borja, Aragón, Bodegas Morca belongs to Grupo Orowines, the brand which unifies all the Spanish wine projects of Gil Family Estates. Not by chance, the winery produces only varietal Grenache wines. Indeed, the region of Aragón is considered the birthplace of the Grenache (Garnacha) variety.

The wines of Bodegas Morca are produced from vines 30 to 50 years of age, planted on the slopes of the Moncayo mountain range. The area has a harsh climate, with very cold winters, extremely hot summers, little rainfall, and great temperature differences between daytime and nighttime during the ripening season. Besides, the region is constantly swept by the Cierzo, a cold north wind which acts as a sanitizing and cooling agent, and which also increases the concentration of the grapes because of its drying effect.

The grapes are harvested by hand, and each plot is separately vinified. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, and malolactic fermentation may be conducted either in steel tanks or in French oak barrels. All of the wines from Bodegas Morca are aged in French oak barrels. The aging period lasts 15 to 20 months.
