Details

A varietal Tempranillo, Allende is made by the prestigious winemaker Miguel Ángel de Gregorio from a selection of grapes coming from the 148 plots of vines, 45 years old on average, owned by the Finca Allende winery and located near the town of Briones.

Once in the cellar, the grapes were selected and destemmed. Without being crushed, they were put into stainless steel tanks, macerated at a low temperature for a week and fermented for over a period of 10 days with daily pump-overs. After a second maceration period in contact with their skins, this Spanish red wine completed malolactic fermentation in those same steel tanks.

Afterwards, Allende 2014 from La Rioja was transferred into French oak barrels, where it was aged for 14 months, with rackings being performed every 4 months. This wine from La Rioja Alta was neither filtered nor clarified before its bottling.

We suggest that you aerate this Crianza red wine 20 minutes before you drink it.

Appearance

The red wine Allende has a clean, bright, medium-high cherry-coloured robe with a violet rim.

Nose

An ode to fruit, this Tempranillo is truly protean: blackberries and bilberries, evolving into cranberries, raspberries... you name it. This Crianza red wine also suggests some delicate creamy notes, a dash of tobacco, and hints of withered leaves and damp earth.

Palate

On the palate, this wine from Bodega Finca Allende keeps an overall fruity character, enriched by a wonderful freshness and a yummy quality. Very well-balanced, with prominent notes of toast and Eastern spices. Acidity is remarkable, and tannins are ripe and gentle. Very persistent finish and great ageing potential, as with all of Mr. De Gregorio's wines.

Our personal opinion

Earnest and savoury, Allende 2014 pairs excellently with roasts and casseroles. An awfully nice Rioja.

Value
The classy touch of the old Rioja, plus the fresh and zippy touch of the new one. Perfect combination. I raise my glass for Mr. de Gregorio. His white wine kills it too.
