Product Description
Details

The remarkable Alvear Palo Cortado Nº7 is produced by Bodegas Alvear, one of the most prestigious wineries from DO Montilla-Moriles.

This exquiste Spanish fortified wine is made solely from Pedro Ximénez, the flagship variety of the region.

It is worth mentioning that the Palo Cortado is the rarest among Andalusian fortified wines. This kind of wine usually comes about accidentally, when a wine that was initially aged under the flor veil shows a palate as intense and structured as an Oloroso, while retaining the aromatic qualities and finesse of an Amontillado.

After a meticulous vinification, this Alvear Palo Cortado Nº7 was aged for 20 years minimum in American oak soleras.

Pair this dry fortified wine with smoked fish recipes, game dishes and pickled foods.

Nose

The aromatic refinement and complexity of this varietal Pedro Ximénez is mindbending. Ginger bread, dates and candied orange peel, with remembrances of sandalwood, cuban tobacco, argan oil and dry fruit.

Palate

This wine from Bodegas Alvear is a feast for the senses. Citrusy, spicy and saline, with immense concentration, real depth and impressive complexity. Finish goes on forever, leaving innumerable and ever-changing aromatic suggestions.

Our personal opinion

Palo Cortados are on a class of their own. The intensity and depth of this wine are almost too much to bear.
