Product Description
Details

First produced in 1986, this high-end Spanish red wine is a modern La Rioja classic crafted by the Marqués de Riscal winery.

Originally, the idea behind Barón de Chirel Reserva was to craft a first-class, modern-style product from the oldest vines of the winery.

The wine is mainly produced from Tempranillo (around 70% of the blend), complemented by Grenache, Graciano and Mazuelo, as it is customary in the region. The vines are 80 to over 100 years old.

Produced only in exceptional vintages, the grapes were harvested by hand and vinified in French wooden vats. Malolactic fermentation took place in fine-grained French oak barrels, after which this Reserva red wine was aged for 20 months.

Finally, the wine was aged for a minimum of two years in the bottle prior to its release.

Decant Barón de Chirel Reserva 2015 1 hour minimum before drinking.

This Rioja red wine has a remarkable ageing potential.

Appearance

The red wine Barón de Chirel Reserva has a bright, lively, medium-high cherry-coloured robe with a crimson rim.

Nose

Barón de Chirel by Marqués de Riscal has a spectacular nose, full of spices, ripe fruit, wild berries. There are toasted nuances, some mineral undertones, floral hints, and remembrances of balsam, nicely intertwined and intensely expressive.

Palate

This exceptional red wine from Rioja is extremely refined and voluptuous. Moreover, it shows a rock-solid structure and impressive precision. The palate is reminiscent of mulberries and cranberries, with some vegetal notions, Moroccan leather, clove, cinnamon, dry earth, rose and violet petals and Havanna cigars. Delightfully complex, with mellow tannins and a very long finish.

Our personal opinion

Complex, elegant and well-balanced, Barón de Chirel Reserva 2015 is a celebration wine.

This wine has the elegance of a great Bordeaux and the flesh of a great Australian wine.

This wine is dark and deep as a black hole. It is warm and dense, and is incredibly sophisticated and refined on the palate. The flavours make my head spin, and the ending is maybe the longest I've experienced. Right now Chirel is terrific, but if I were you I would store it for some time.
