Product Description
Details

The Dominio de Cair winery, a brand of Bodega Luis Cañas, produces Cair Selección La Aguilera basically from Tempranillo, with just a 5% of Merlot.

The grapes are sorted from 40 to 50-year-old vineyards located at an altitude of 800 metres above sea level, in a pristine area surrounded by forests, in the heart of DO Ribera del Duero.

Harvested by hand and selected in the cellar, the grapes underwent a cold-maceration in order to extract colour and aromas. After that, this Spanish red wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks.

Malolactic fermentation took place in new French and American oak barrels (50%-50%). Then, Cair Selección La Aguilera 2019 was aged for 14 months.

Finally, this red wine from Ribera del Duero was bottled and aged in the for a further 12 months before its release.

Aerate this Crianza red wine, a great match for meat dishes, 30 minutes before drinking.

Appearance

The wine Cair Selección La Aguilera is deep ruby with some maroon edges.

Nose

Intense and well-balanced, this blend of Tempranillo and Merlot suggests some toasted and moka aromas, with notes of mulberries and damson and hints of pepper, cocoa and balsam.

Palate

With a friendly entrance, this red wine from bodega Dominio de Cair is silky and tasty, showing a good balance between the fruit and the oak. Good acidity and slightly rugged tannins, with a long, creamy finish with a balsamic and earthy aftertaste.

Our personal opinion

Tasty and deep, Cair Selección La Aguilera 2019 is an impeccable traditional Ribera.

Cair wine

One of my all-time top 3 Riberas. Mouthful and fresh, with dark fruit, after eight and dry earth.

A big mouthful of luscious dark fruit
Value
I came across the Cair 2011 Crianza while vacationing on Mallorca a year ago. Since then I've ordered 5 cases to be delivered to our home in Germany. I thought it was wonderful (still have some and still do), and I was worried when Enterwine ran out and was only able to offer the 2012. I needn't have worried. The dark, fruit forward profile is still the same. This is a very similar wine with juicy roundness, the fruit luscious but not sweet or too jammy. The wine (the crianza was aged in oak) has, for me, just the right amount of structure. So, I'd guess it'll last for a few years but is delightful to drink right now (and I had a bottle last night). Enjoy!
