Product Description
Details

This is the new vintage of Clio, a top-notch Spanish red wine from DO Jumilla.

The wine is produced by Bodegas El Nido - a branch of Gil Family Estates - from a blend of old, almost centenary Monastrell (70%) vines and Cabernet Sauvignon.

As always, this Crianza red wine was crafted by the prestigious Aussie winemaker Chris Ringland, from Barossa Valley.

Macerated and fermented partly in stainless steel tanks and partly in oak barrels, this red wine from Jumilla was then transferred into new American and French oak barrels, where it completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for over a period of 24 months.

We strongly suggest that you decant Clio 2021 at least 1 hour before you drink it.

Additional Information
Additional Information
Appearance

The red wine Clio is deep ruby with a garnet rim.

Nose

Succulent black fruit presented in all its forms, from fresh to marmalade-ish. This blend of Monastrell and Cabernet Sauvignon also suggests caramel and toffee, with some gentle hints of toast, cocoa, Havanna cigars and coffee. In the background, some earthy and mineral nuances.

Palate

Huge, powerful and savoury, and it also shows a distinctive elegance, thanks to Mr. Ringland's masterful touch. Fruit and freshness define the palate, complemented with exotic touches of spices, violets, some vegetal nuances, some toasted notes, and deep mineral undertones. This wine from Bodegas El Nido has a linear, steely acidity, some ripe tannins and very long finish.

Our personal opinion

Rightly bearing a Greek Muse name, Clio 2021 is a truly inspiring red wine.

A terrific wine!
Value
Since 2008, my wife and I were introduced to Juan Gil wines and their 2 El Nido & Clio off springs by a friend of us who lives in Abarán, Murcia Spain.
I have an 'El Nido' story about her as well, that I'll tell shortly in an El Nido wine 'review'...
I drank probably about 6 to 12 Clio bottles over the years, and since then it was 'love on first taste' for me and us!
It has always been a very smooth, silky, greatly balanced and powerful wine, that has never disappointed me or us.
I do recommended it very much!

An immensely powerful wine, still in the making. Anyhow, it is already a pleasure.

Ringland and his team have begun to reduce the oak ageing period of Clio. It is a good decision, and I must say tha the wine greatly benefits from it. It still is a big and imposing wine, but the fruit and the terroir are now less suffocated. This will probably peak in 5-7 years.
