Details

An outstanding Corpinnat Spanish sparkling wine, one of the very best available on the market, Gramona Celler Batlle is made from 75% Xarel·lo and 25% Macabeo, two varieties with a great ageing potential.

Both are sourced from Finca La Plana, an organically and biodynamically farmed vineyard with sandy-clay soils situated in the Font Jui estate, recognized with the Paraje Calificado distinction. The area has a purely Mediterranean climate.

After a manual harvest, the grapes were meticulously selected and pressed whole bunch. Traditionally vinified, this Penedès sparkling wine of the Gramona winery was bottled after completing alcoholic fermentation. Then this organic sparkling wine from Penedès completed secondary fermentation and was aged for a minimum of 110 months.

Manually disgorged, the sparkling wine Gramona Celler Batlle 2014 was finally added shipping liquor coming from a centenary solera, one of the Gramona family's most treasured possessions.

The winner of several national and international awards, this Corpinnat sparkling wine is simply world-class.

Only 4,000 bottles produced.

Appearance

The sparkling wine Gramona Celler Batlle is deep straw with some golden tinges.

Nose

Impressively nuanced, this blend of Macabeo and Xarel·lo suggests rich aromas of white fruit and aromatic herbs like laurel and thyme, nuanced by hints of aniseed, white roses, pastry, butter, bread crust, bitter almonds, English custard and toffee.

Palate

Surprisingly young and energetic despite being over 10 years old, with smooth, tiny bubbles and a great acidity. This Corpinnat sparkling wine of bodega Gramona is truly phenomenal, and it caresses the palate in a most gentle way. Totally controlled and focused, with a remarkable ageing potential. Long, evocative finish with remembrances of almonds, pastry, aromatic herbs, citrus and white flowers.

Our personal opinion Highly rated by some of the world's top wine critics vintage after vintage, Gramona Celler Batlle 2014 is simply spellbinding.

Absolutely first-rate. Vinous and very deep, more a still than a bubbly, so to speak.

A truly remarkable sparkler that really deserves the attention of the serious drinker. Not a wannabe Champagne, this has complete confidence in itself and says clearly and loudly what it has to say.

This is a world-class sparkler. In a way, it is more Champagne than Cava, because it lacks that bone-dry, super-zippy side of the great brut nature Cavas. Anyway, it is a must for bubble-lovers.
