Product Description
Details

A varietal Tempranillo, Pago de los Capellanes El Nogal is a high-end Spanish red wine produced by bodega Pago de los Capellanes only in great vintages.

The grapes are sourced from Finca El Nogal, a 6-hectare parcel planted with a massal selection of vines from Finca El Picón, the flagship red wine of the winery.

Finca El Nogal has clay-limestone soils, a feature which brings a particular finesse and edgy minerality to the wine. Moreover, yields are quite low.

Harvested by hand, the grapes were refrigerated, macerated for 6 days and then fermented in new French oak vats with indigenous yeasts.

After that, Pago de los Capellanes El Nogal 2019 from Ribera del Duero completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for 32 months in fine grain French oak barrels.

This top-notch red wine from Ribera del Duero was not filtered, clarified or stabilized before its bottling in May 2022.

Decant this reserva red wine at least 1 hour before drinking.

29,005 bottles produced.

Appearance

The red wine Pago de los Capellanes Finca El Nogal is medium purple with a garnet rim.

Nose

This varietal Tempranillo shows complex notes of forest berries, red and blue flowers and sweet spices, delicately nuanced by remembrances of vanille, cedar, cinnamon, Moroccan leather, toast and smoke. In the background, there are enticing mineral suggestions, with hints of tobacco, liquorice and sandalwood.

Palate

Bold and sophisticated, but still tight, with plenty of room for growth, this wine of bodega Pago de los Capellanes exhibits a bridled power, with velvety tannins and a crisp, solid acidity. Spices, menthol, wild berries, deep mineral notes, and intimations of underbush and flowers. Long finish with some toasted and smokey remembrances.

Our personal opinion

One of Ribera del Duero's great wines, Pago de los Capellanes el Nogal 2019 is elegant, complex and age-worthy. Quite an experience.

An expensive wine indeed, but worth the buy. After a long aeration it began to unfurl, and it was amazing. The fruit, the depth, the impression of terroir. All in all, I think this wine should be aged for some years, because it is only beginning to fulfill its potential.
