Details

Produced by Viñedos y Bodega Pardevalles, Pardevalles Carroleón Tinto is sourced from the Pago Carroleón vineyard, located in the southern part of the León province, DO Tierra de León.

Made solely from Prieto Picudo, a structured, high-tannin local variety, the grapes were first destemmed and macerated with the skins for 3 days. After that, this Spanish red wine was fermented in truncated cone-shaped stainless steel tanks under controlled temperature.

Then the red wine Pardevalles Carroleón Tinto 2020 was transferred into 225-litre French oak barrels stored in a 300-year-old underground cellar, where it was matured for 24 months.

Finally, this red wine from León was gently filtered and clarified before being bottled.

Decant this Crianza red wine before drinking.

Pair with roast recipes, pâtés and aged cheeses.

Appearance

The red wine Pardevalles Carroleón Tinto is deep ruby with some purple glints.

Nose

This varietal Prieto Picudo is deep and concentrated, with aromas of cassis and forest berries, some toasted and balsamic notes and remembrances of herbs, dry earth, vanilla, clove and ground coffee.

Palate

Rounded by the years, this wine of Bodega Pardevalles is earthy, sappy and deep, with a steely acidity, some sinewy tannins and some berryish and spicy flavours. Very long finish with some herbal and mineral remembrances.

Our personal opinion

Autumnal and bold, Pardevalles Carroleón Tinto 2020 is a complex Prieto Picudo, a variety which could be compared to a rustic, earthy Nebbiolo.

Noteworthy wine
Value
Although the expectations were not crazy high, this wine impressed me enough so as to write a review. This is deep and serious stuff, a dark and brooding wine, as folks in the trade use to say. Tight and concentrated, with grainy tannins, loads of forest berries and terrific acidity.
