Product Description
Details

The wine Perelada Finca La Garriga is crafted from over 50-year-old Samsó (a.k.a Carignan) vines, the oldest on the Perelada estate, located in the northern Catalan region of L'Empordà.

Typically, wines made from young Carignan vines are not terribly exciting. However, as the vines grow older their capacity to convey a distinctive sense of place increases exponentially.

This varietal Spanish red wine from Castillo Perelada is sourced from vineyards with clay-limestone soils that have very low levels of organic matter and are covered with sand and gravel. Located near the French border, the vines are constantly swept by a harsh northern wind called Tramuntana.

Harvested by hand, the grapes were fermented, macerated for a long period of time and aged for 18 months in new fine-grain American oak barrels.

After that, the wine Perelada Finca La Garriga 2020 from DO Empordà was aged for a further months in the bottle prior to its release.

Decant this Crianza red wine a minimum of 1 hour before drinking.

Appearance

The wine Perelada Finca La Garriga is deep ruby with a garnet rim.

Nose

This varietal Carignan shows real complexity. Exuberant notions of raisins, blackcurrants and cranberries, combined with aromas of Jamaica pepper, cocoa, fine wood, withered leaves and some deep, compelling mineral undertones.

Palate

This red wine from Castillo Perelada is fresh and meaty, with a smooth body and a substantial volume. Juicy notes of red fruit, cocoa, sweet spices, notes of toast and deep mineral remembrances. Crisp acidity and long finish with the slightly rugged, earthy note typical of the wines from Empordà.

Our personal opinion

Slowly reaching its peak, the wine Perelada Finca La Garriga 2020 has some very good years ahead of it.

Superb carignan
Value
A serious wine indeed. Extremely fresh, with an earthy palate and overall bold nature. Clean and sharp, though. It needs some years to peak.

Yessir!! This wine is REALLY deep and mineral. Bone dry, with cocoa and raspberries dancing on the palate. Superb.
