Product Description
Details

If there are wines that transcend time, then Remírez de Ganuza Gran Reserva may well be one of them.

Crucially, this Spanish red wine comes from one of La Rioja's best terroirs. Moreover, this Rioja Gran Reserva was exquisitely crafted by its winemaker, Fernando Remírez de Ganuza, a purebred riojano who knows the region inside out.

Made from 86% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano, and 4% Viura and Malvasía, coming from over 60-year-old vineyards, the hand-picked, scrupulously selected grapes were destemmed, cold-macerated and fermented in 7,000 l. wooden vats.

After that, Remírez de Ganuza Gran Reserva 2011 was drawn-off and transferred into new French oak barrels (88%) and American oak barrels (12%), where it completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for 40 months. Finally, this Gran Reserva red wine was aged for some years in the bottle before its release.

Decant this red wine from La Rioja by Remírez de Ganuza a minimum of 2 hours before drinking.

Appearance

The wine Remírez de Ganuza Gran Reserva has a lavish, high cherry robe with a beautiful violet rim.

Nose

Entrancing aromas of black truffle, overgrowth, red and black fruit, blue flowers and incense, stemming from some of the purest Tempranillo and Graciano vineyards in all of Rioja. Some toasted notes, ever-evolving mineral hints, and some spicy and earthy overtones. Enthralling.

Palate

As smooth, classy and deep as it gets, Remírez de Ganuza Gran Reserva exhibits some luscious fruit, accompanied by some amazing mineral and graphite notes, alongside touches of Moroccan leather and Havana cigars. Superb tannins, a rock-solid acidity that promises a long life ahead, and unending finish with a long aftertaste of pepper, cinnamon and vanilla.

Our personal opinion

There is no doubt that Remírez de Ganuza Gran Reserva 2011 is one of the brightest stars of modern Rioja.
