Details

One of Priorat's most sought-after wines, Doix is remarkable for its elegance, ageing potential and finesse.

As usual, this Spanish red wine is made from Carignan and Grenache grapevines 80 years old on average. Located 500 metres above sea level, because of its age the roots of the plants go deep into the harsh, telluric slate soil typical of Priorat. This gives this red wine from Priorat of bodega Mas Doix a depth which very few wines are able to match.

The handpicked grapes were separately vinified. During alcoholic fermentation the cap was regularly submerged into the wine must so the wine could get colour, texture and flavour from the grape skins.

After that, Doix 2019 was aged for 16 months in new French oak barrels. To preserve its distinctive qualities, the wine was neither clarified nor filtered prior to its bottling. Finally, it was aged for a minimum of 12 months in the bottle before its release.

Decant this Crianza red wine no less than 2 hours before drinking.

Nose

An alluring and expressive nose, full of Priorat's mystique  The purest aromas of wild berries, combined with a deep, fresh, intense minerality coming from the slate soils. Subdued, mysterious aromas of menthol and eucalyptus, nuanced by a myriad of delicate floral notes. Smelling this old-vines Carignan & Grenache is like walking through a Mediterranean forest.

Palate

Already a treasure trove, though not fully developed and showing a great potential for improvement, this wine of bodega Mas Doix carries loads of wild berries, pure and extremely vivid, some slightly astringent tannins, waves of aromatic herbs and flowers, some balsamic and toasty notes, and a spectacular backbone of acidity. Intrincate, nuanced and precise, with a delightful texture. Enchanting, neverending mineral and earthy aftertaste.

Our personal opinion

We think that Doix 2019 is one of Priorat's great wines. Simply magical.

Absolutely fabulous. It has a depth and a spell out of this planet. At its best, the telluric, black magic of Priorat is only comparable, on the other side of the spectrum, with the glory of Burgundy. Whay I mean by this is that Burgundy and Priorat are the quirkiest terroirs in the world.
