Made from vines over 30 years of age, Domus Pensi is produced in the southern Catalan region of Terra Alta.
Produced by the Altavins winery, this Spanish red wine is made from a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Merlot and Samsó (Carignan)
The vineyards are located in a demanding environment, with poor soils and a harsh climate of severly hot summers and cold winters.
Harvested manually, the grapes were macerated and fermented in stainless steel tanks for 26 days. After that, Domus Pensi 2016 was aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. Finally, was further aged for 24 months in the bottle.
Decant this Reserva red wine 30 to 45 minutes before drinking.
Appearance | The wine Domus Pensi has an intense, bright red colour with some violet tinges. |

Nose | This blend of Grenache, Merlot, Syrah and Samsó is complex and quite deep. Ripe black fruit, jammy red fruit -notably amarena cherries- nuanced by notes of spices and menthol. On the background of this red wine from Terra Alta, there is a layer of smoke, dry earth and underbrush. |
Palate | Well-balanced and lively, with potential for growth, this wine of the Altavins winery carries plenty of liquor-infused fruit, licorice, clove, cocoa, tobacco and aromatic herbs. Crisp, refreshing acidity, ripe tannins and long finish with some toasted and fruity remembrances. |
Our personal opinion | Deep and hugely enjoyable, Domus Pensi 2016 proves the great potential of Terra Alta. |
