Product Description

Most wine aficionados know that Galicia is a land of great white wines. What is less well known, though, is that the region also produces some very interesting Spanish red wines.

The producer of a prestigious varietal Albariño, Adega Pedralonga presents the new vintage of DoUmia, an excellent red wine from the DO Rías Baixas.

One of Galicia's strongest points is its amazing array of indigenous grapes. Consequently, this red wine from Rías Baixas is made from a blend of Mencía (70%), Caíño Tinto (20%) and Espadeiro (10%).

The result? Not your ordinary Spanish red wine, that's for sure! An Atlantic-style wine, DoUmia 2018 is fresh, subtle and, above all, unconventional. Handpicked and cold-soaked, the grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks and subsequently aged on its lees for between 9 and 12 months.

Crafted by winemaker Francisco Alfonso Reboreda, the production totalized around 4,500 bottles.

Additional Information
Additional Information

The red wine DoUmia has a delicate, medium cherry robe with a ruby-violet rim.

Suprisingly rich - to say the least - on the nose, this blend of Mencía, Caíño & Espadeiro begins by suggesting subtle notes of menthol and fine wood, followed by tobacco and dried flowers. Then the fruit slowly appears, gaining momentum and growing over a mineral background. We smell black fruits, raisins and red fruits, but also eucalyptus, dry bay, wet undergrowth and... you name it. This Rías Baixas red wine even shows tangerine and citrus notes.

Clean and smooth, this red win by Adega Pedralonga has an excellent balance, some savoury tannins and a backbone of acidity that makes it tremendously fresh. The palate evokes red fruit, spicebox and citrus, with some dried vegetables and deep mineral undertones. Long finish. This red wine aged on lees has a saline and balsamic aftertaste.

Our personal opinion

We invite you to explore the world of Galicia's indigenous red grapes with DoUmia 2018. A wine which, among other things, demonstrates the amazing diversity of the Spanish wine geography.
