Details

The family-run winery Àlvarez Duran presents the wine Dual, its entry-level bottling. This Spanish red wine is a faithful portrait of the unique terroir of Priorat.

A blend of Grenache, Carignan, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the grapes were sorted from two vineyards, La Ràpita and Fonellàs, located on the outskirts of Porrera. Both have the typical slate soils which give the Priorat region its unique character.

After a manual harvest, each variety was separately vinified in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts. Once fermentations and macerations were completed, the wine Dual 2021 was aged for 14 months in oak barrels. Before its commercial release, it was aged for about three months in the bottle.

Truly a man of the land, winemaker Sal·lustià Àlvarez has done a great job with this Crianza red wine.

We suggest that you aerate this Priorat red wine at least 30 minutes before drinking.

Appearance

Clean and bright, Dual is deep ruby with a garnet rim.

Nose

This blend of Grenache, Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot is deep and complex. Minerality is ever-present, together with notes of red fruit and wild berries, nuanced by tips of aromatic herbs, garrigue and flowers. Wood is nicely integrated, only showing in the form of some spicy remembrances.

Palate

Substantial and structured, but neither beefy nor overblown. On the palate, this wine of the Àlvarez Duran winery shows an excellent balance and some potential from improvement.  Spicy notes are more present here, and fruit is ripe and expressive. Tanins are smooth, and acidity is excellent. Long finish with deep mineral undertones and some smoky and balsamic remembrances.

Our personal opinion

Elegant and savoury, the wine Dual 2021 shows a classic, unhesitating Priorat character. Pair with casseroles, stews or game dishes.

Will become a classic
Value
I think that this wine will eventually become a classic Priorat, because it really encapsulates the main traits of the region. Fruit, eartthiness, depth, freshness and acidity. Engaging.
