The great Raúl Pérez, one of the world's best oenologists, presents the new vintage of this Spanish red wine from El Bierzo.
The grapes come from 60 hectares vines located at an altitude over 500 metres above sea level in the vicinity of Valtuille de Abajo. Most of the vines, which grow in sandy-limestone soils, are over 50 years old.
Traditionally vinified, this red wine from El Bierzo was fermented and aged in French oak barrels for 12 months.
Not filtered prior to its bottling, El Castro de Valtuille 2018 has a truly Burgundian spirit.
Aerate this Crianza red wine some time before drinking.
The red wine El Castro de Valtuille has an intense, high cherry-coloured robe with a violet rim.
Terroir-oriented, this Mencía by Raúl Pérez suggests pristine, elegant aromas of red berries, along with some nuances of violet, lavender and exotic spices. This red wine of Bodegas Castro Ventosa also suggests some deep mineral undertones and a real sense of place.
|Palate||Deep and intense, this red wine from El Bierzo still needs some years to fully display its qualities. Right now, there are remembrances of blueberries and cranberries, some bitter notions, a mineral backbone, fresh acidity and yummy tannins. Fresh, long, mineral finish.|

The excellent El Castro de Valtuille 2018 is a deep, terroir-bound varietal Mencía from El Bierzo which will pair excellently with hearty dishes.
