White Wine El Transistor Verdejo 2018
Availability: In stock
Produced by Telmo Rodríguez, one of Spain's most prominent winemakers, El Transistor Verdejo is born in the region of La Seca, in the DO Rueda, the cradle of the Verdejo grape.
This Spanish white wine is made from old vines grown in poor, rocky-limestone soils with very low levels of organic matter. As for the 2018 vintage, it was a very late one, defined by abundant spring rainfalls and a slow, steady ripening of the grapes.
Harvest was carried out manually. After that, the grapes of this old-vines Verdejo by Telmo Rodriguez were fermented using indigenous yeasts in differently shaped and sized vats and barrels, made of wood, concrete and stainless steel.
Once that process was finished, El Transistor Verdejo 2018 was aged for 9 months in different containers, blended and aged for some months in the bottle prior to its release.
This is a remarkably complex white wine from Rueda.
Appearance | The wine El Transistor has a pale, bright, clean yellow colour with golden tinges. |
---|---|
Nose | Aromas of juicy white fruit, citrus, white flowers and freshly-cut grass, typical of a Verdejo from Rueda, alongside some elegant, restrained notes coming from the ageing process. |
Palate | Lighter and subtler than one might expect, this white wine of top Spanish winemaker Telmo Rodríguez is crisp, dry and really fresh. Remembrances of flowers, white fruit, aromatic herbs and citrus, along with hints of yeasts, some mineral undertones and a dash of spices and smoke. El Transistor has a well-balanced acidity and long, slightly bitter finish with a fennel remembrance. |
Our personal opinion | A far cry from the average Verdejo, El Transistor 2018 is a decidedly terroir-oriented Rueda white wine. |
