Product Description
Details

The entry-level Spanish red wine of the Mas Alta winery, Els Pics shows the most approachable side of the prestigious Priorat wine region.

It is made from 60% Grenache, 25% Carignan, 10% Syrah and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, all coming from vines planted on slate and clayey-limestone soils.

Handpicked and carefully selected, the grapes were macerated and fermented in concrete tanks. Then Els Pics 2019 was aged for 12 months, the first 6 in the tanks, and the other 6 in new and 2nd year French oak barrels.

Aerate this Priorat red wine 30 minutes before drinking.

Appearance

The red wine Els Pics is medium purple with a violet rim.

Nose

This blend of Grenache, Carignan, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon is very idiomatic. Aromas of red fruit, spices, toast and a dash of underbrush. In the background, a pulsating mineral remembrance.

Palate Nice balance between the fruit and the wooden notes. This wine from Bodegas Mas Alta is gulpable and yummy, with a well-crafted acidity and crunchy tannins. Bold and substantial, the mineral nuances are extremely seductive. Long, persistent finish.

Our personal opinion

Easy-to-drink, honest and powerful. Els Pics 2019 pairs wonderfully with slow cooked stews and casseroles.

The entry-level wine of Mas Alta is a real Priorat, bold and intense, and it has a very reasonable price. With this wine you have an honest introduction to the region, and you get acquainted with the famous Priorat minerality. A personal favourite.
