Product Description
Details

Produced by Enrique Mendoza, one of the most interesting producers in the Spanish Levant, Enrique Mendoza Santa Rosa is made from a combination of international grapes that, nevertheless, succeeds in bringing out the best of the Mediterranean terroir of Alicante.

This elegant Spanish red wine was crafted as a tribute to his mother, Mrs. Rosa Cortés, who was passionate about the world of wine and food.

The 2020 vintage of this red wine from Alicante is made from Monastrell and Cabernet Sauvignon in equal parts, complemented with Merlot and Syrah. The four varieties are sourced from a single vineyard, Finca El Chaconero.

Separately harvested, the grapes were destemmed, macerated for a minimum of 12 days with daily pump-overs, and fermented at a controlled temperature using indigenous yeasts.

Then this wine from Bodegas Mendoza Alfaz del Pi was transferred into new French oak barrels from Allier and aged for 16 months.

Finally, Enrique Mendoza Santa Rosa 2020 was aged for a further months in the bottle.

This blended Crianza red wine should be decanted a minimum of 1 hour before drinking.

Nose

This blend of Monastrell, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah conveys an intense minerality, with many fresh notes of graphite and wet soils, intertwined with some toasty notes. When opened, fresh and ripe fruit leap from the bottle, alongside some creamy and spicy notes and fresh balsamic aromas.

Palate

Elegant and deep, with a rock-solid structure, this wine from Bodegas Enrique Mendoza has a luscious texture and a steely acidity that makes the wine fresh and powerful. Plush tannins and very long finish that leaves a toasted and smokey aftertaste.

Our personal opinion

Powerful, age-worthy and elegant, with a distinctive minerality. Enrique Mendoza Santa Rosa 2020 is a first class wine from Alicante.
