Red Wine Espelt Comabruna 2016
Availability: In stock
A single varietal Spanish red wine produced in the DO Empordà, Espelt Comabruna ranks among the best wines produced in that northern Catalan region.
This one-of-a-kind wine is a single varietal Carignan made from vines over 100 years of age - they were planted in 1901, - located in the harsh, windswept region of the Albera mountain range, on the southern side of the Pyrenees. The soils are mainly composed of slate.
Produced by the Espelt Viticultors winery, the vinification process was meticulous. After a manual harvesting and a careful selection of the grapes, once in the cellar they were cold-soaked for 3 days and fermented in stainless steel tanks.
Then this red wine from L' Empordà was transferred into used French oak barrels, where it completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for 18 months.
Decant a minimum of 2 hours before drinking.
Drink Espelt Comabruna 2016 over the next 7-9 years.
The red wine Espelt Comabruna has a clean, bright, high cherry-coloured robe with a garnet rim.
Exhilaratingly deep, this red wine from L'Empordà nevertheless unfurls slowly, so some patience is required to fully enjoy it. It begins with some deep aromas of ripe red fruit, menthol and garrigue. This very old-vines Carignan ceaselessly evolves, displaying further notes of coffee, toffee, cocoa and dry earth, with some salty and mineral remembrances.
Muscular, elegant and intense, with an exceptional acidity, one of Carignan's trademarks, and an overall sense of, so to speak, opulent austerity. There are bitter touches, a pristine note of bilberries and blackberries, some remembrances of charcoal and smoke, some deep mineral undertones, and a real sense of terroir. Comabruna by Celler Espelt has a very long, complex finish.
