Red Wine Espelt Terres Negres 2018
Availability: In stock
Produced by Celler Espelt, Espelt Terres Negres is born in the rugged, windswept region of L'Empordà, a northern Catalan region bordering France.
This blended Spanish red wine is made from 86% Carignan and 14% Lledoner Negre (Grenache), both coming from 60 to 80-year-old vines grown in slate and granite soils.
Manually harvested at their optimal ripening state, the grapes were gently crushed and fermented for 21 days with the skins. After that, this red wine from Empordà completed malolactic fermentation in oak barrels.
Then Espelt Terres Negres 2018 was aged for 12 months in new and used French oak barrels and oak vats. Finally, it was aged for a further 3 months on its lees, and for some months in the bottle before its commercial release.
Decant this Crianza red wine 30 minutes before drinking.
Appearance | The red wine Espelt Terres Negres is medium purple with a violet rim. |

Nose | Enticing notions of ripe black fruit, sweet spices, laurel, white pepper and menthol. In the background, this blend of Carignan & Grenache suggests some notes of toast, some mineral undertones and aromas of cocoa and freshly ground coffee. |
Palate | Full-blown and intense, this red wine from Celler Espelt also has an extraordinary acidity that provides a rock-solid backbone. Delicious notions of cassis and blackberries, deep mineral undertones, some touches of Mediterranean garrigue, and a hint of toast and vanilla. Smooth, ripe tanins and long, balsamic finish. |
Our personal opinion | Definitely not a showcase of Mediterranean bravura, Espelt Terres Negres 2018 has some complexity and inner drama. This is nice value with a good ageing potential. |
