Red Wine Exibis La Rasa 2015

One of the distinctive characteristics of the Can Serra dels Exibis Viticultors' winemaking approach is the use of byodinamic procedures in all of its farming and oenological operations.
Produced in the DO Pla de Bages, in central Catalonia, Exibis La Rasa is a Spanish red wine made from an uncommon blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, that most international of red grapes, and the indigenous, little-known Sumoll and Mandó varieties. All come from vineyards grown in wide terraces located at an altitude of 500 metres. Soils are composed of clay and limestone and climate is Mediterranean-Continental.
Harvested by hand, the grapes were brought to the cellar, destemmed and gently crushed. Alcoholic fermentation took place in open vats, with some punch-downs and a 6 to 8-day-long maceration period. After that, Exibis La Rasa 2015 was put into lightly toasted 1st and 2nd year French oak barrels and aged for 12 months.
Despite being an indigenous variety, the Mandó grape is not listed on the label due to bureaucratic reasons.
Decant this red wine from Pla de Bages at least 30 minutes before drinking.
The wine Exibis La Rasa has a medium-high garnet robe with reddish tinges at a violet hue at the rim.
Original, nuanced, very pure. Pristine aromas of red fruit and wild berries, some forest-like sensations and touches of withered flowers, moss and fallen leaves. In the background, this biodynamic red wine suggests some toasted and balsamic notes and some mineral touches.
Despite the apparent contradiction, the wine has a meaty body, and at the same time a very supple structure. Both Sumoll and Mandó, the two indigenous grapes, have a wonderful acidity, and the Sumoll also possesses some bold tannins that need some time to fully mellow. The wood of this wine by Can Serra dels Exibis Viticultors is very well integrated, and it is only perceived in some spicy hints. Primary notes of garrigue and Mediterranean forest are predominant, along with some delicious flavours of red berries and some seductive suggestions of flowers. Long, gentle, complex finish.
|Our personal opinion||
Like its younger brother Exibis, Exibis La Rasa 2015 is an extremely original and interesting wine. This blend of an international red grape and two local varieties has been exquisitely conceived and crafted.
