Red Wine Exibis La Rasa 2016
Availability: In stock
One of the distinctive characteristics of the Can Serra dels Exibis Viticultors' winemaking approach is the use of byodinamic procedures in all of its farming and oenological operations.
Produced in the DO Pla de Bages, in central Catalonia, Exibis La Rasa is a Spanish red wine made from an uncommon blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, that most international of red grapes, and the indigenous Sumoll and Mandó varieties. All come from vineyards grown in wide terraces located at an altitude of 500 metres. Soils are composed of clay and limestone and climate is Mediterranean-Continental.
Harvested by hand, the grapes were brought to the cellar, destemmed and gently crushed. Alcoholic fermentation took place in open vats, with some punch-downs and a 6 to 8-day-long maceration period. After that, Exibis La Rasa 2016 was put into lightly toasted 1st and 2nd year French oak barrels and aged for 12 months.
Despite being an indigenous variety, the Mandó grape is not listed on the label due to bureaucratic reasons.
Decant this red wine from Pla de Bages at least 30 minutes before drinking.
The wine Exibis La Rasa is bright garnet with some violet reflections.
Original, nuanced, very pure. Pristine aromas of red fruit and wild berries, some forest-like sensations and touches of withered flowers, moss and fallen leaves. In the background, this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sumoll and Mandó suggests some toasted and balsamic notes and some mineral touches.
Primary notes of garrigue and Mediterranean forest are predominant, along with some delicious flavours of red berries and some seductive suggestions of flowers. Both solid and supple, the wood of this wine by Can Serra dels Exibis Viticultors is very well integrated, and it is only perceived in some spicy hints. Long finish with remembrances of fallen leaves and undergrowth.
|Our personal opinion||
Like its younger brother Exibis, Exibis La Rasa 2016 is an extremely original and interesting wine. This blend of an international red grape and two local varieties has been exquisitely conceived and crafted.
