Details

One of the distinctive characteristics of the winemaking approach of Can Serra dels Exibis Viticultors is the use of byodinamic procedures in all of the farming and oenological operations.

Produced in DO Pla de Bages, central Catalonia, the wine Exibis La Rasa is made from a sophisticated and most uncommon blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, the most cosmopolitan of all red grapes, and the totally indigenous Sumoll and Mandó varieties. All come from organic certified vineyards grown in wide terraces at an altitude of 500 metres. Soils are composed of clay and limestone and climate is Mediterranean-Continental. 

Harvested by hand, the grapes were brought to the cellar, destemmed and gently crushed. Alcoholic fermentation of this Spanish red wine took place in open vats, with some punch-downs and a 6 to 8-day-long maceration period.

After that, the wine Exibis La Rasa 2019 was put into lightly toasted 1st and 2nd year French oak barrels and aged for 12 months.

Decant this Crianza red wine from Pla de Bages at least 30 minutes before drinking.

Appearance

The wine Exibis La Rasa is deep ruby with some violet reflections.

Nose

Original, nuanced, very pure. Pristine aromas of red fruit and wild berries, some forest-like sensations and touches of withered flowers, moss and fallen leaves. In the background, this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sumoll and Mandó suggests some toasted and balsamic notes and some mineral touches.

Palate

Primary notes of garrigue and Mediterranean forest are predominant, along with some delicious flavours of red berries and some seductive suggestions of flowers. Both solid and supple, the wood of this wine from Can Serra dels Exibis Viticultors is very well integrated, and it is only perceived in some spicy hints.  Long finish with remembrances of fallen leaves and undergrowth.   

Our personal opinion

The wine Exibis La Rasa 2019 is very interesting. This organic blend of an international red grape and two local varieties has been wisely conceived and superbly crafted.

A most uncommon red from Catalonia. Amazingly fresh and not fruit-driven, you feel the forest and the soil instead. Intriguing and rewarding.
