The Callejo Family crafts the exceptional Félix Callejo Selección de la Familia from their very best plots located in the town of Sotillo, in the heart of Ribera del Duero.
This Spanish red wine is a single varietal, old-vines Tinta Fina (the local clone of Tempranillo).
After an extremely meticulous harvest with two selection processes, the best grapes were destemmed and fermented in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts. Macerated with the skins for a substantial period of time, they were subsequently transferred into new French oak barrels to complete malolactic fermentation. After that, this Tinta Fina was aged for 15 months in the barrels. Once bottled, it was aged for a further 12 months before its commercial release.
The remarkable Félix Callejo Selección de la Familia 2015 will improve considerably over the next years.
We suggest that you gently decant this Reserva red wine from Félix Callejo 1 hour before drinking.
Appearance | The red wine Félix Callejo Selección de la Familia has a clean, deep cherry colour with a purple rim. |

Nose | Superb aromatic expression from beginning to end! The combination of the deep varietal character of the Tinta Fina from Ribera del Duero and a judicious use of oak yields a truly spectacular result. Delicate, deep and seductive, with suggestions of blueberries, cassis and damson, typical of Tempranillo, mingled with remembrances of roasted coffee, vanilla, cocoa, licorice, withered leaves and some earthy and mineral nuances. |
Palate | Seductive and round, this red wine from Félix Callejo wine has a silky passage and an intricate texture, full of drama and depth. Sensuous fruit, Jamaica pepper, toffee, Moroccan leather, tobacco and caramel notes. Hints of dry soil in the background and a long, umami aftertaste. No flabbiness here, though: Félix Callejo Selección de la Familia is tightened up by an extraordinary acidity and some crisp, firm tannins. A healthy backbone that promises longevity. |
Our personal opinion | The spellbinding Félix Callejo Selección de la Familia 2015 will enchant your senses and captivate your mind. A wine to drink right now, but also an excellent wine to follow its evolution. |
