Details

This is the new vintage of the red wine Ferrer Bobet, produced by the prestigious bodega Ferrer Bobet. The winery is the joint project of pharmaceutical company owner and wine lover Sergi Ferrer-Salat and world-class oenologist Raül Bobet (who is also the owner and winemaker of the Castell d'Encús winery).

It is made from young vines, planted in 2004, 2005 and 2006, and from grapes sourced from over 20-year-old vines. They grow in steep slate slopes on the outskirts of Porrera, Priorat's freshest spot.

The 2020 vintage of this Spanish red wine is, as customary, made mostly from Carignan, complemented with Syrah, Grenache and a dollop of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Harvested by hand and meticulously selected, the grapes were selected twice and fermented in 15 and 30 Hl. concrete, stainless steel and wooden vats.

After that, the red wine Ferrer Bobet 2020 was transferred into 50% new and 50% used French oak barrels, where it was aged for 12 months.

Decant this red wine from Priorat 30 minutes before drinking.

Appearance

The red wine Ferrer Bobet is medium purple with a violet rim.

Nose

This blend of Carignan, Syrah, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon shows fresh, enticing aromas of juicy red and black fruit over a deep, dark mineral background, nicely combined with remembrances of liquorice, cocoa, spices, flowers and toast.

Palate

Smooth and inviting, with a very good acidity, great definition, and some silky tannins. Fruit, earth, underbrush and minerality combine in a most graceful manner. This wine from bodega Ferrer Bobet has a long, nuanced finish.

Our personal opinion

Exquisitely crafted, the red wine Ferrer Bobet 2020 is an enormously enjoyable wine. It showcases the most elegant side of the region.

Awfully nice Priorat, conversational and controlled. No mineral savagery here.

This one is a serious contender to the "Priorat's absolute best value title". Multilayered, sculpted with laser-like precision.

This is fascinating. Priorat with an Atlantic character.

This new wine of Ferrer Bobet includes some French grapes in the blend. This fact makes the wine quite approachable to an international palate, while keeping Priorat's trademark earthy, mineral core. This wine is simply great, and I think it will have a great evolution over the next 5-6 years.
