The wine Finca la Emperatriz Reserva is a Spanish red wine made from old, over 60-year-old vines by the Finca La Emperatriz winery.
The vines have extremely low yields of less than 1.5 kg per plant.
This reserve red wine from La Rioja is made from a blend of 94% Tempranillo, 3% Grenache, 2% Viura and 1% Graciano, a traditional blend that produces spectacular results.
Harvested by hand in mid-October, once in the cellar the grapes were cold-soaked for two days before undergoing alcoholic fermentation.
After the completion of both processes, the wine was transferred into 60% American oak and 40% French oak barrels, where it was aged for 24 months.
Finally, Finca la Emperatriz Reserva 2014 was aged for a further 22 months in the cellar prior to its release.
Drink now until 2025. Decant 30 minutes before drinking.
42,000 bottles produced.
Appearance | The red wine Finca La Emperatriz Reserva has a clean, bright, medium-high ruby-coloured robe with a garnet rim. |

Nose | This deep reserve red wine by Finca La Emperatriz smells of Havanna cigars and cocoa, with some remembrances of orange rind, a dash of cedar and balsam, and some intense aromas of ripe black fruit and red berries. |
Palate | Expertly crafted, with a fresh, elegant passage through the palate and a balanced structure. Red berries, remembrances of underbush and some understated tertiary notes that add a layer of complexity. This traditional wine from La Rioja has an excellent acidity, mild tannins and long, balsamic finish. |
Our personal opinion | More complex than in previous vintages, Finca la Emperatriz Reserva 2014 is a wine that deserves some attention. An excellent value indeed. |
