Red Wine Finca La Emperatriz Viñedo Singular 2017
Availability: In stock
Produced by Finca La Emperatriz, Finca La Emperatriz Terruño is a single vineyard Spanish red wine made from a traditional Rioja blend of Tempranillo and Grenache, plus a droplet of Viura.
This remarkable Crianza red wine was crafted from grapes sourced from a estate classified as Viñedo Singular ("singular vineyard"). Terroir-wise, this the highest quality level currently existing in DOCa Rioja - the local version of a Grand Cru vineyard, so to speak.- Planted with 50 to 65-year-old vines, the vineyard has gravel soils covered with pebble stones.
The three varieties were harvested by hand. Once in the cellar, they were macerated for 5 days, fermented in concrete diposits with native yeasts with daily pump-overs, and further macerated for 20 days. Then Finca La Emperatriz Viñedo Singular 2017 was transferred into oak barrels, where it completed malolactic fermentation. Finally, the wine was aged for 14 months in new French oak barrels (60%) and 2nd year American oak barrels (40%).
37,950 bottles produced.
Aerate this single vineyard red wine 1 hour before drinking.

Nose | Deep and intricate, conveying a distinctive sense of place, this blend of Tempranillo, Grenache and Viura suggests aromas of bilberries, bramble and ripe cherries, punctuated by notions of underbush, wet earth, cedar, balsam, menthol and spices. |
Palate | This wine from Finca La Emperatriz has an exhilarating palate, with round tannins, high quality fruit and just a faint touch of oak. Poised, full of detail and very fresh, with a long, berryish finish and a mineral and balsamic aftertaste. |
Our personal opinion | A terroir-bound Rioja, Finca la Emperatriz Terruño 2017 is a lovely wine. |
