This is the new vintage of Finca Viladellops, a wine produced in the Garraf mountain range by Finca Viladellops. For those who have never heard of the place, Garraf is a subzone of the DO Penedès that, due to its limestone soil full of marine fossils and vicinity to the sea, produces wines with a distinctive minerality and a highly original character.
Manually harvested and selected both at the vineyard and in the cellar, each variety was separately vinified in stainless steel tanks. After pre-fermentative maceration and alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation was carried out in French oak barrels. Then Finca Viladellops 2016 was aged for 12 months in those same barrels, blended and aged for a minimum of 12 months in the bottle before its release.
We suggest that you aerate this red wine from Penedès 30 minutes before you drink it.

The red wine Finca Viladellops has a bright, intense cherry colour with a garnet rim.
This blend of Grenache & Syrah begins by showing a highly characteristic, attractive mineral background - limestone, flintstone and a distant salty remembrance, a clear imprint of the Garraf terroir - over which we perceive aromas of wet earth, blackberries, plums, spices, hints of balsam and a touch of liquorice.
Luscious notes of red fruit and delicate touches of spices and garrigue, along with a noticeable mineral background. This organic red wine is bold and well-structured, with a very good acidity and some crunchy tannins. Crafted with precision, this wine from Finca Viladellops has a long finish, with a delicious salty touch and some remembrances of toasted bread.

The amazingly priced Finca Viladellops 2016 shows a completely different side of the well-known Penedès area. And a most interesting one indeed.
