Red Wine Goliardo Loureiro 2015
Availability: In stock
Belonging to the Tintos de Mar collection, Goliardo Loureiro is an exclusive Spanish red wine made from Loureiro, an almost extinct indigenous grape which has fortunately been recovered by the Forjas del Salnés winery.
Coming from the DO Rías Baixas, a region which, as is usually the case in Galicia, has a rich heritage of grape varieties, the old Loureiro grapevines had been lovingly preserved by Galician peasants, until the winery realized the potential of the grape, and decided to craft a single varietal wine.
Harvested by hand, the grapes were vinified in stainless steel tanks under a strict temperature control. After that, this red wine from Rías Baixas was transferred into 4th year French oak barrels, where it completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for 12 months.
Drink Goliardo Loureiro 2015 through 2027.
Decant a minimum of 30 minutes before drinking.
The red wine Goliardo Loureiro has a very bright, clean cherry colour with a garnet rim and some violet tinges.
Exceptionally fragrant and characteristic, this Galician red wine suggests pristine notes of fresh flowers and red berries, alongside some balsamic notions, aromas of toast and spices, and some vegetal and mineral undertones.
Fresh and linear, this wine by Forjas del Salnés has a truly Atlantic, almost saline character, a light body, and an exceptional acidity. Red berries, some herbal notions, a salty touch and some mineral undertones. The tannins of Goliardo are still a bit raw, but this fact only adds more authenticity to the wine; besides, they will mellow over time. This single varietal Loureiro has a long, balsamic finish.
|Our personal opinion||
If you want to surprise that blasé friend who seems to know everything about wine, try Goliardo Loureiro 2015. Truly a connoisseur's item, and a fine pice of work by Rodrigo Méndez.
