Product Description
Details

This interesting Spanish red wine bears the name of a rural trail that traverses the Priorat region.

Produced by Casa Gran del Siurana, GR-174 is made from grapes coming from two estates located in Bellmunt del Priorat. The first one, La Casa Gran, is near the banks of the Siurana river, and it is mainly composed of red slate soils. The second one, La Fredat, is composed of black slate soils.

This red wine from Priorat is a blend of Grenache, Samsó (Carignan), Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc.

Harvested by hand, the grapes were destemmed, macerated and separately fermented. After that, half of the grapes completed malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels and were subsequently aged for 5 months.

Aerate GR-174 2019 20 minutes before drinking.

Nose

This young red wine from Priorat smells of red and black fruit, amarena cherries, flowers, tobacco leaves, balsam and dark mineral.

Palate

Fresh and deep, this blend of 6 varieties produced by Casa Gran del Siurana brings to mind raspberries and blueberries, alongisde nuances of Mediterranean garrigue, menthol, toast and spices. Smooth and well-balanced, with a tense acidity and a medium, mineral finish.

Our personal opinion

Characterful but not overpowering, GR-174 2019 is a fairly good introduction to Priorat.

An honest, unpretentious Priorat that works very well for me. Commended.

Here you have the Priorat trademark and also a good drinkability. I've shared this wine with some fellow drinkers who at first were not very prone to drinking Priorat. It worked wonders, and now most of therm are fans of the region.
