Product Description

This is the new vintage of one of Gran Claustro, one of Catalonia's classiest red wines

Made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Samsó (Carignan) and Grenache, the grapes come from several estates located in the rugged, windswept region of northern Empordà, an exceptional terroir located near the Catalan-French border.

Produced by Castillo de Perelada, the grapes were meticulously harvested and selected. Then this Spanish red wine was fermented and macerated in stainless steel tanks.

After that, Gran Claustro 2014 was aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels.

Finally, this red wine from L'Empordà was aged for a further 24 months in the bottle.

Decant 1 hour before drinking. Drink until 2028.

Additional Information
Additional Information

The red wine Gran Claustro has a bright, clean, high cherry-coloured robe with some purple glints.

This deep reserve red wine opens tight, but as it breathes it displays some smokey and toasted nuances, aromas of ripe red and black fruit, a panoply of Eastern spices, and some hints of chocolate, fine leather and flowers. The background of this wine by Castillo de Perelada suggests some notions of Mediterranean garrigue, mineral and dry earth.

Bold and luscious, this red wine from L'Empordà conveys some expressive notes of jammy red and black fruit, alongside touches of liquorice, bitter chocolate, flowers and notes of cedar, cinnamon, vanilla and clove. Gran Claustro is sinewy, with a first-class acidity, ripe tannins and an extremely long, toasted finish.

imposing wine
This is an imposing wine of great classicism and flawless craftmanship. The Emporda terroir adds a further layer of complexity in the form of an earthy-mineral element.

I've drunk each and every vintage of this wine for the last ten years or so. It simply goes from strength to strength.
