The composition of the 2011 vintage of Gran Cruor differs slightly from previous vintages.
Moreover, the wine comes from single estate located at the very heart of Priorat, called La Fredat. Located in the town of Bellmunt del Priorat, the estate is composed of steep slopes with the typical black slate soil of the region.
This crianza red wine is produced by the Casa Gran del Siurana winery, a brand of the Grupo Perelada.
The grapes of Gran Cruor 2011 were first macerated and then fermented in stainless steel tanks. Then it was aged in new French oak barrels for 16 months.
Finally, it was clarified and filtered before its bottling.
Decant this red wine from Priorat a minimum of 2 hours before drinking. Drink over the next 8 years.
The Gran Cruor wine has a dark cherry colour with a ruby rim.
This red wine from Priorat is deep and intriguing. Aromas of cranberries and blueberries, a note of roasted coffee and nuances of black chocolate and liquorice. On the background, this blend of Grenache & Syrah has a gentle, smooth mineral background intertwined with some vegetal remembrances and hints of Mediterranean herbs.
At 7 years of age, this red wine by Casa Gran de Siurana is round, smooth, palate-coating and superbly balanced. Liquor-infused fruit, creamy nuances of cacao and spices, nice remembrances of flowers and a wonderfully mineral core. A Crianza red wine with a good acidity, mellow tannins and a long, intense finish.
