Product Description

This exquisite Spanish red wine comes from L'Empordà, a windswept, northern Catalan region bordering France.

Produced by Vinyes d'OlivardotsGresa Expressió is made from 4 different varieties planted in different types of soils, a fact that brings a remarkable complexity to the wine.

Namely, the wine is a blend of 38% old-vines, low-yielding Carignan vineyards grown in slate soils, plus 29% Grenache, 23% Syrah & 10% Cabernet Sauvignon grown in sandy and granitic soils-known in Empordà as Gresa.

After a meticulous harvest, the grapes were selected twice and, once in the cellar, they were cold-soaked and fermented in stainless steel tanks and French oak vats.

Then Gresa Expressió 2011 was drawn-off and aged for 18 months in fine-grained French oak barrels with periodic stirrings.

This red wine from L'Empordà was not clarified or filtered before its bottling. Finally, it was aged for a further 36 months in the cellar before its release.

Production of 11,000 bottles.

Decant a minimum of 1 hour before drinking.

Additional Information

The red wine Gresa Expressió has a bright, medium-high cherry-coloured robe with a violet rim.

This reserve red wine from L' Empordà unveils a complex array of aromatic nuances, beginning with balsam and ripe black fruit that slowly evolve into hints of red berries, some lactic touches and notes of spices, toast and Mediterranean garrigue. On the background, some mineral and earthy undertones.

Palate-coating and bold, this red wine by Vinyes d'Olivardots is textured and remarkably complex. The notes of flowers, balsam and aromatic herbs nicely interact with remembrances of black fruit, liquorice, cocoa and spices. On the background, a pulsating, irresistible mineral beat enlivened by a crisp, sharp acidity and some round tannins. Long, uplifting finish with some bitter remembrances and notes of liquorice.

Our personal opinion

Bold, mature and substantial, Gresa Expressió 2011 from L'Empordà shows again that the region is capable of producing great wines.
