Product Description
The red wine Hombros is made from grapes coming from 27 hectares of estate-owned vinyeards belonging to the El Bierzo DO and located at altitudes between 600 and 700 metres. The vineyards are 50 to over 100 years old, and they planted in slate and clayey soils.

Produced by Casar de Burbia, this Spanish red wine is a single varietal Mencía. Manually harvested, once in the cellar the grapes were fermented at a low temperature and macerated on its lees for 2 months. After that, Hombros 2013 was transferred into French and American oak barrels (33%), where it completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for 12 months.

The red wine Hombros has a deep cherry red coloured body with some violet tinges.


An expressive Mencía from El Bierzo. Dim spicy notions (cinnamon, aniseed, tobacco), mingled with juicy notes of bilberries, game and herbs over a mineral background.


Flavourful and surprising. This red wine by Casar de Burbia has a lively acidity and some polished tannins. Oak is subtle, and the wine is nicely textured, with some mineral and earthy intimations, polished tannins and a long finish.

Our personal opinion

A nice expression of the Mencía grape, Hombros 2013 pairs excellently with casseroles and all kind of meat dishes.
