Details

The new vintage of Iugiter, produced by La Conreria d'Scala Dei, is an excellent one.

Made from estate-owned vineyards situated in DOQ Priorat, this Spanish red wine is made from the traditional varieties Grenache and Samsó (Carignan).

The grapes were sourced from vines planted on steep slate slopes near the villages of La Vilella Alta and Scala Dei. Once in the cellar, the grapes were macerated with the skins and fermented in stainless steel tanks and 600-litre barrels.

This red wine from Priorat was then aged in French oak barrels of different sizes for 18 months.

Before its commercial release, Iugiter 2016 was aged for a further 48 months in the bottle.

Decant this reserva red wine a minimum of 1 hour before drinking.

Appearance

The red wine Iugiter is deep ruby with a purple rim.

Nose

Powerful and characteristic, this blend of Grenache and Samsó is also full of nuance and detail. Aromas of ripe black fruit, some toasted notes, cocoa powder, sweet spices, fresh herbal suggestions, dim mineral notes and some floral hints

Palate

Fresher and definitely nimbler than one might expect from a Priorat red, this red wine from La Conreria d'Scala Dei glides across the palate displaying a very good acidity and some smooth, mature tannins. Fresh notes of red berries, remembrances of Mediterranean garrigue and an enticing minerality. Long finish with remembrances of spices and balsam.

Our personal opinion

A modern-style Priorat, Iugiter 2016 is round and elegant.
