Details

Formerly known as Juan Gil 18 Meses, Juan Gil Etiqueta Azul (Blue Label) is produced in the DO Jumilla.

Made principally from old-vines Monastrell (60%) coming from vineyards grown at altitudes between 700 and 800 metres, this Spanish red wine is complemented with 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah.

This Jumilla red wine is produced from estate-owned vineyards composed of different kinds of soils. Separately harvested and vinified depending on its plot of origin, the grapes completed alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks.

Malolactic fermentation of this certified vegan wine took plance in new French and American oak barrels. Once completed, this Crianza red wine produced by Juan Gil was aged for 18 months.

Be sure to aerate Juan Gil Etiqueta Azul 2018 30 minutes before drinking.

Appearance

The red wine Juan Gil Etiqueta Azul has an intense, high cherry-coloured robe with a garnet rim.

Nose

The bold Etiqueta azul from Juan Gil, aka Juan Gil 18 Meses, displays complex notes of toast and spices that slowly evolve into notes of black and red fruit with some creamy nuances. On the background, this vegan wine conveys some hints of coffee, Havanna cigars, and remembrances of Mediterranean garrigue.

Palate

Savoury and deep, this Crianza red wine from Juan Gil has a palate-coating texture and a smooth body. Well-structured and fresh, with an excellent acidity that enlivens the wine. Garrigue, dry earth, wild berries, cocoa, blue flowers and some balsamic and spicy nuances. Ripe tannins and long, complex finish.

Our personal opinion

Suggestive, rich and age-worthy Juan Gil Etiqueta Azul 2018 is the perfect companion of hearty dishes.

Less and less oaky over the last years. Big body, but ripped fat-free. Quite a wine, you know.

Big wine, deep and concentrated. It is already very good, but in my view it still needs a couple of years to get rid of the baby fat completely. Top winery.
